I’ve been a veterinarian at Pender Veterinary Centre for over 23 years now and I have seen many changes as Pender has grown through the years. There have been changes in medications and equipment but one thing that has not changed is each veterinarian’s desire to serve pets, their owners, and each other. We have many veterinarians here at Pender and our team approach to veterinary cases is a critical component of how we provide best in class service to our community of pets and their owners.
One thing that attracted me to Pender when I started was the support network of veterinarians available to me should have any questions. Now, 23 years later, I still benefit greatly from regularly asking and answering questions of my veterinary colleagues. If I see a limping dog I may reach out to our Chief of Surgery, Dr. Denney, to find his thoughts about the case. Or, if I want another veterinarian to take a look at a tooth extraction during a dental cleaning, I can page Dr. Hyatt to come give me a second opinion during the dental procedure.
The beautiful thing about Pender is that a lot of 2nd and 3rd (and 4th!) opinions take place behind the scenes and the pet owner rarely sees or knows about it and I feel that the ever-present availability of a quick, on-site, second opinion makes for better outcomes for our patients.
